European white goods will generally be useable in Shanghai, but those purchased in the USA operate on a different voltage.
Your remover will be able to provide details of the level of insurance that is available for your possessions whilst they are in transit. You must read the policy document carefully and ensure that you fully understand any sections that may limit the liability of the removal company in the event of loss of, or damage to, your goods. If you require storage for some of your possessions, such as bulky items of furniture, your remover may be able to offer this service or recommend a local supplier.
It is extremely difficult to import your car into China if you do not have diplomatic status. If you want to own a car in Shanghai, the simpler course of action is to buy one when you arrive.
