Hello! One of the first things to do when settling in Costa Rica is to find a home. In order to rent a flat/apartment or house you should familiarize yourself with the area, determine where you want to live, and evaluate what you need. Consider access to shops, schools, transport, and work. If you have already been through the process of selecting a home in Costa Rica , you can provide valuable advice on how and why you selected your home, and provide tips for people moving to your area. How did you find your accommodation? Estate agent or classifieds? Did you use a website? Or did you find your place through friends or word-of-mouth? What do you recommend? Was it quick to find or did it take a long time? What are the essential points you considered (transport, schools, shops… etc). How much is the average price of accommodation? What are the costs involved for renting? Do you need a deposit? Guarantees? What are the formalities and the contract requirements in Costa Rica ? Are there important clauses members should consider? Is there an inventory? What are the conditions for leaving or giving notice? Please offer your advice or questions! This is a tricky step in moving abroad and personal advice, mistakes to avoid and things to consider are extremely helpful. Thanks in advance for sharing your experience!
Hi! Not many people commenting over here either I have some friends living in Costa Rica that are doing some groundwork for me and searching by word-of-mouth and personal contacts but I've also been recommended a couple of places that can help with the search: https://www.stayintamarindo.com/ & https://vacationrentalsoftamarindo.com/ I've been talking to them and they seem really helpful, offering a wide variety of housing options but the thing is that they work exclusively in Tamarindo and I truly haven't decided if that is the town I would like to move to. Does anyone have similar options working in other towns? Or real estate agents as well. I am open to anything, really want to keep my options open. Thanks!
It might all change with the help you provide pushing up this discussion to the top og this forum Do you have an idea in which areas, you are planning to move? Are you looking for a big city? Moving with family, kids?
Hi again! Great in that case, I have two more agencies that I liked to add to the discussion: https://tamarindorealestate.com/ VERY professional & very well informed, they really seem to know about their market. https://tropicalhomesofcostarica.com/ Perhaps more luxury-orientated? But still good. They do have lower-profile options. I am clearly very focused on Tamarindo because our friends moved there, but we are actually open to smaller towns. NOT cities. And yes, moving with my children. Any suggestions? Thank you!
Vacation Rental in Tamarindo does not seem appropriate as they are... for vacation, therefore not for moving with a family and settling in a new country. How did your friend find their place? Are you able to do the same?
Her husband had a lead that connected him with the owner of https://www.luxuryvillasincostarica.com/ & https://luxuryvillashaciendapinilla.com/ who assisted them in finding the perfect home. He is a US citizen but has been living in CR for years now. We cannot use that same connection because it's too distant for us, he wouldn't help us in the same way he did with them I mean. We did manage to locate some interesting houses though through some friends of our friends and will be traveling to Costa Rica to check them out personally. Hoping for the best
