they are indeed a big joke!! my husband applied for residence card on 18th June and received his certificate of application a month later... I had asked for my passport back so they sent him a certificate which does not mention he can work...i had been told that i did not need to send my passport back till they asked for it back... i called them today as i was getting annoyed and they said i had to send passport back with a letter explaining pb....
Apparently, if they r missing a doc, they will not allow u to work... how stupid!!!

As far as how long for an answer or to get RC, they only say max 6 months...
I know some ppl got theirs in less than 5 months so fingers crossed... but to be honest, as long as it is free, they wont bother rushing....

Anyway, as anyone been accepted for work with just certificate??? can we still apply for NI number if not got a passport back??

    cheers and goodf luck!

yes,you can apply for NI number so far as you have a letter from the HO,i dont know why they keep docs there for so long just basing on the EU 6 months rule, which is very bad of the HO.it takes 2-3 weeks in Germany,Holland and Belgium to issue a RC.i think they jst taking a pist.anyway good luck every one on this forum

I've got mine today coz they sent it to wrong address for the first time (don't know why :( they sent me another letter to the right address to ask me send supplement documents when I just applied for RC at the end of July)
Btw, right! exactly!! But no worries... my husband called to HO as soon as I told him about CoA as anyway he needes to call them for his passport needed situation on the business trip Then he asked if 'his wife (me)' can apply for NI number. The answer from the lady in HO was 'of course' I take this as ''yes!! I can work!!!'' See the CoA it says 'Note for emplyers: This will be acceptable when the document is presented in combination with the holder's appropriately documented permanent NI Number....' I think 'the document' means CoA here by understanding of the note for emplyers. So, I just made an interview appointment with Job Centre today and it will be 3rd of Nov. Hurry!! if you need it asap.

    Hello teardrops,
You got through exactly what I have been going through now from the Marriage permission :)
Need so much patience to complete things..
Now I'm on the way to get NI Number as I just recieved my CoA and made an appointment for the interview with Job Centre today. And... here is my question to you 'Did you request to HO to send your passport back for the Job Centre interview?' and 'Whatelse you brought to the JobCentre to get your NI No...?' Could you please let me know the things in a bit more detail..?

    Many Many Thanks!!

Well... But I don't have valid visa for work. Didn't you bring CoA instead? I was thinking to bring CoA to show them I will be eligible to live and work here legally and while processing I am also can stay here.. What do you think? Oh!! By the way, thanks for letting me know that I don't really need the letter from the employer! :)

    hi
your COA entitles you for an NI number, the job centre will write a letter to you and in their letter, they will indicate all that you need, they might indicate passport as well but that is not an issue because you have the COA in place, that is what i took to them anyway

you should have been sent a CoA that has 2 pages... the second one mentions that you are allowed to live and work freely as long as your visa is valid.
If u only received one page , then i advise you to call them and ask why... They might just ask for more papers.

    Hi all,

I wanted to share my good news story about EEA2 processing times in the UK.

    I sent my application 17th Aug 2010
I received my certificate of application 1st Sept
I received my passport, documents and RESIDENCE stamp today - 23rd December

NB: The stamp is dated 2nd Dec so it has obviously been held up in the snow with the rest of our mail. So if mail hadn't been disrupted I would have expected it mid Dec.

Total wait time 4 months - probably less if there was no snow!

Just for note - I applied as an unmarried partner of an Irish citizen. We don't have a long documented history together but we do have two 1 year old children which I guess helped convince them of our family status.

    Good luck everyone

i heard that and when u think how much u lose when waiting fopr 4 months, maybe the price wil be worse it... also most visas r payable so if it hurries the process, i am sure ppl will opt for a fee!!! now let's hope they make travelling in europe easier with a RC....

glad u got urs finally..... enjoy and good luck for future :)
