Published 2017-06-26 21:14:27

Kamien I am Peter Kamien, my passport is a German one but I spent the shortest time of my life in Germany

1.    Why did you move abroad?

Ask my wife! Wink

2.    How do you make a living?
I am a psychologist, advertising and marketing consultant und a writer and I can do my job from everywhere in the world. I had business realations to Slovenia already earlier.

3.    How often do you communicate with home and how?
Phone, skype and visits. We are a big family and there are many good reasons for gatherings with family or friends.

4.    What's your favorite thing about being an expat in Slovenia?
The country itself, this incredible diversity: In wintertime skiing during the day and having a dinner seaside 15 min later. During Summer 50 min to my sailboat….

5.    What’s the worst thing about being an expat in Slovenia?
The business climate

6.    What do you miss most?
Really nothing. Happy to live here. Friends are not far away.

7.    What did you do to meet people and integrate in your new home?
Meeting Slovenes and making friends was easy because I have a Slovene wife. For meeting other expats we founded the German “Stammtisch” which is open for everybody.

8.    What custom/ habits do you find most strange about your adopted culture?
Getting house slippers when you are a guest in a Slovene home

9.    What is a myth about your adopted country?
A nice story: When Godfather was dealing the land to all the people of the earth, the humble Slovene came too late. No peace of land available anymore! He was crying and begging just for a little peace. He was so nice and so pure that Godfather was touched and said to him: “Ok, then I will give you the part which I reserved for myself” – And the story is true!

10.    Is the cost of living higher or lower than the last country you lived in and how has that made a difference in your life?
My last station was Vienna which is really expensive. I changed to the better side. I love good wine and excellent kitchen. Feel the difference: Super.

11.    What advice would you give other expats?
Enjoy this lovely country.

Kamien12.    When and why did you start your blog?
I felt in love with this country and therefore I started my blog about Slovenia 3 years ago. I wanted to inspire my friends about my new home country. The Slovenian Tourism Organization discovered my blog and forced me to continue and do it even more intensive. With pleasure!
