Taiwanese cinema is rooted in the country's unique and complicated history. Cinema developed outside of the Hong Kong mainstream and the censorship of the People's Republic of China. Ang Lee's Eat Drink Man Woman is one of Taiwan's best known films.

Spot - Taipei Film House- This art centre used to function as the residence of the U.S. Ambassador. It now holds independent screenings and has cafes and restaurants. The book store offers difficult to find and independent films on DVD.
