    THE GLOBAL PASS
This year marks both the celebration of the 450th anniversary of Rugby School UK and the first school year of Rugby School Thailand. Nothing could better commemorate the legacy of rugby's birthplace than having a rugby ball passed around the globe 450 times.
Rugby School’s “Global Pass Campaign: Passing on the Legacy” features a Gilbert rugby ball, with a GPS tracking device fitted inside to follow its progress, traveling around the world. It began its global journey on January 9th at the school’s very same rugby pitch where the game was first invented by William Webb Ellis back in 1823.
With the ball set to be passed between Old Rugbeians 450 times in more than 25 countries around the world, designated ORs in each of these countries volunteered to support the campaign by recording the event with photos or video and organising mini events as the ball passes through.
Being the sister-school of this prestigious boarding establishment, Rugby School Thailand recently welcomed the ball and participated in this historic event, led by the Founding Head and one of the school’s governors M.L. Taya Kityakara, together with Rugby School UK alumni including the honourable M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra.
The Global Pass ball will end its worldwide journey on September 27th, 2017, returning to Rugby School UK during the Community Day celebrations. Also in September, Rugby School Thailand is scheduled to be opened for its first school year, coinciding with the 450th anniversary celebrations and continuing the legacy of one of the longest-running UK independent schools.
