One of the most common questions for future expats is about the cost of living in Sydney. Easy Expat provides a Sydney city guide that offer comprehensive information on accommodation, entertainment, jobs etc. and a useful tool to compare the cost of living in some major cities in the world.

However, as the cost of living is constantly changing and costs differ from person to person, we could use your help submitting your basic costs of living for other future expats.

If you live in Sydney, you can help the community and give information about the cost of living. You might be able to give indication and comments on the needs:

 Food (what to expect, what to find).
 Accommodation price in Sydney. Rent?
 Transport (public transport but also the necessity and cost of using a car)
 Services (gas, electricity, telephone, internet...)
    Tax
    Health, Education
    Entertainment (restaurant, cinema, theatre...)

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience with the community

Need help on expenses in Sydney for an Indian Family

    Hello friends living in Sydney,
I have a job offer based out of Sydney. I am not too sure of expenses and want opinion from residents of Sydney if below are correct estimates and would be enough for Indian family of three (including 2.5 yr old daughter). As I will be coming on 457 visa i will have to bear cost of day care and insurance (my PR is on the way).
Below are the expenses i could figure out, can anyone please confirm. I need to decide by this weekend itself.

    All expenses in AUD:

House rent - 1700/month (my office is in Macquarie Park - which suburbs are recommended that are well connected, have decent schools/day care/basic facilities in mind as i am really scared on rent part in Sydney )
Groceries- 1200 / month (we are vegetarian family, fond of fruits and tea teetotaler)
Utilities (gas, electricity (Air Con, Geyser, Chimney, Hot Plate), Water)- 200 / month
Travel within city from suburb to Macquarie Park for work- 250/month (for self and spouse)
    Day care (3 days a week) - 1200/month (i.e. @100 dollars per day, 3 days a week hence 3 *4 = 12, 12 *100 = 1200 dollars)
    Health insurance - 200/month
    Cable TV/broadband - 200/month
    Mobile- 100 (2 connections)
    Gym - 200/month(for 2 members)
Swimming Pool Entry for child per visit - 10/visit

Can anyone correct or confirm if something wrong.
Any other miscellaneous expenses need to consider before taking decision of moving for good to Sydney?

    Appreciate your help.

    Hello,

Every three years, UBS CIO WM Research publishes an extensive study on prices and cities around the globe, that we use amongst other data with our Cost of Living calculator.
You can find the latest edition here: http://81.47.175.201/ETMS/rankings/2012 ... rnings.pdf

In addition you may also check with expat bloggers in Sydney to ask for prices.

Last, but not least, you may check with the numerous links that we provide inside our guide for expats in Sydney: http://www.easyexpat.com/en/guides/australia/sydney.htm

Best of luck and see you soon on our forums  (don't forget to post some updates on your move  )
