Elizabeth Alexandra Mary (more commonly known as Queen Elizabeth II) celebrates her 60 year reign this June. This is only the second time a monarch has reached this landmark with Queen Victoria celebrating in 1897. Events have been taking place throughout the year, but will reach it's zenith over June 2nd - 5th with celebrations extending from the epicenter in London to the farthest reaches of the globe.

Events in London

Every venue in London is putting on a show for the celebration with many official events. Some events will be difficult to attend because of their popularity, but screens are set-up throughout the city.

The Epsom Derby will be attended by the Queen. Enjoy the ponies and the royalty on June 2.

Hyde Park is the setting for two-days of family events on June 2nd & 3rd. Traditional British fare, the Magic of Disney in Concert show, BBC's Strictly Come Dancing, War Horse, and more will mark the occasion.

Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant features a 1,000-boat flotilla on the Thames. The procession will be on June 3rd and be led by the Queen on the Royal Barge.

A Concert at Buckingham Palace will take place on Monday June 4th. Organized by the BBC, the concert will be attended by The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh and other members of the Royal Family. Tickets sales are now closed, but the concert will be broadcast live on BBC One, Radio 2, and on big screens in Hyde Park, St James's Park and The Mall.

A service of thanksgiving and carriage procession will complete the events on Tuesday June 5th. A national service will be held at St. Paul's Cathedral with a "Diamond Choir" of children from around the UK singing a specially composed song. The Royal Family will then travel from Westminster Hall to Buckingham Palace by carriage. They will then appear on the balcony with a RAF fly-over.

The goal is to offer people a chance to sit down for a meal with their neighbors in an effort to extend the feeling of community.

To really get into the spirit, light your very own Jubilee Beacon on June 4th. All events will be between 22:00 and 22:30 BST in the UK with events in other countries at 22:00 local time.

An important part of any party is to put together the right food and drink. Recipes from the Telegraph include pies, roasts, tarts, coronation chicken, Jubilee punch, and the Queen's perfect scone.

If you prefer to turn your celebration to altruistic celebration, consider joining the Diamond Jubilee's Sixty minutes for 60 years. This movement, called the Jubilee Hour, is being led by TV personality Katy Hill. It honors the Queen for the Diamond Jubilee and benefits your community. Nearly 600,000 hours have been pledged so far.
