SOFO stands for “South of Folkungagatan” and
has become on of Stockholm’s trendiest ares. Located south of Folkungagatan
and east of Götgatan on Södermalm, here you will find a huge selection of stores
and cafés.
GAMLA STAN is home to many small boutiques
and is the place to head for if you’re loking for Swedish handicrafts, souvenirs
or a cozy café: Chokladkoppen on Stortorget square is a good starting point.
ÖSTERMALM is the neighbourhood for fashion and
international brands like Kookaï, DonDonna, Filippa K, GUCCI, ARMANI and RIZZO.
On Biblioteksgatan you will find the city’s most exclusive boutiques gathered
in one place. Antique shops and art galleries abound in this discrict and the
pleasant stroll down
Strandvägen is recommended.
The
UPPER EAST area is one of Stockholm’s most
fashionable and stretches along the entire
Karlavägen,
as well as two blocks in every direction. It’s full of shops and cafés. Chic
clothes and interior decorating are two of this neighbourhood’s trademarks.
BRUNO on Götgatsbacken is Södermalm’s newest mall and houses stores such as
Filippa K, Ljunggren, We, Whyred, Munteh Plus Simonsen, Way, Stuk, David Design,
and Homerun. Thirty-nine stores, including Paul & Friends, SOLO, SAKS, Face
Stockholm and Granit make up VÄSTERMALMSGALLERIAN on Kungsholmen. The old NK
department store on Hamngatan has been a fixture since 1902 and is worth a visit.
But PUB is Stockholm’s oldest department store, on Hötorget square. The newly
renovated GALLERIAN on Hamngatan offers many stores, salons, and restaurants.
Swedish design
For typical Swedish design head for ASPLUNDS, Sibyllegatan; 10-GRUPPEN and
DAVID DESIGN on Götgatan; and SVENSKT TENN and CARL MALMSTEN on Strandvägen.
Swedish glass is world famous and highly sought-after internationally. At BLÅS
& KNÅDA on Hornsgatan you will find a large selection of contemporary Swedish
pottery and studio glass – utility items as well as original art objects. ORREFORS
KOSTA BODA on Birger Jarlsgatan is both a store and a gallery; it specializes
in exclusive art glass by Swedish designers. PUKEBERG on Sibyllegatan sells
both everyday glass and art glass in contemporary and classic styles.
Antiques
If you’re into antiques you should go to AFRODITE ANTIK, Odengatan 92, which
has a wide selection of glass, porcelain, silverware and cut-glass chandeliers.
ALLA TIDERS MODERNA & ANTIKA, St. Göransgatan 67, is a huge shop selling furniture,
pianos, record players, art, china and bric-a-brac. The jewellers BOLIN W A
,Stureplan 6, are purveyors to the Royal Court of Sweden. JACKSONS, Sibyllegatan
53, is something of an institution for the sale of vintage twentieth century
design and decorative arts. KREUTER ANTIKHANDEL, Köpmangatan 18, specializes
in helmets, uniforms and guns used in the army. KUNGSHOLMEN ANTIK & KURIOSA,
Hantverkargatan 47, is an excellent antique store, MODERNITY (Sibyllegatan 6)
has a wide selection of post-war designed furniture. MORMORS SPEGEL, Odengatan
84, is the right place to look for crystal or porcelain, and RAGNAR ZEDELL K
& A, Köpmangatan 3, sells model ships, ship ornaments, and all things maritime.

37, mostly sells records from the sixties and seventies, and MELLOTRONEN, Kåkbrinken
16, in old town Stockholm sells both new and second hand CDs. RECORD HUNTER,
