Safety

Barcelona is Europe's pickpocketing capital. Parts of Barcelona are covered by TV surveillance, but only at the more popular spots. Use basic precautions like:

• Be alert in crowded places, such as public transport, train (Sants train station and Sagrada Familia) and bus stations. La Rambla and Raval are particularly bad areas.
• Watch out for people with odd requests, like changing money, magic tricks, etc.
• Keep your valuables in the safest place on your body, or to be completely protected, a money belt
• Do not leave anything unattended

Women traveling alone should try not to travel alone at night, especially in isolated parts of Montjuic. They should also watch out on city beaches for bag snatchers.

Men traveling alone should expect the prostitutes on Las Ramblas to be aggressive. They also work in teams with pickpockets and robbers.
