Social Security in Mumbai

Tools:

The social security system in India comprises two main organisations:

  1. Employee Provident Fund Organisations: According to the latest rules, employees are eligible for membership the day they join an establishment. The employee contributes 12% of his salary toward the EPF and employer contributes the same amount. The EPF scheme is designed to take care of the employee's retirement, medical care, housing, education and financing of insurance policies for him and his immediate family members. 2. Employee State Insurance Corporation: This has been implemented in a number of states in the country. This is a scheme aimed at the lower ranks of employment and typically expects employees to contribute about 2% of their salary and approximately 4% of the salary as contribution from the employer. For more details on the scheme, please click here
Please note that the focus of the Indian Social Security System is to provide its citizens with maximum protection and coverage. This is a huge enough task to accomplish and facilities for expatriates will be minimal if any.
