Television

Television first came to Greece in 1966, a year before the start of the 7-year military junta. The first colour television broadcasts started at the end of the seventies. In the early 1980’s private TV Ant1 and Mega were established and later many other private Greek TV stations came into being. In recent years Nova, the private paying satellite company, has made an impact on the market offering more then 100 channels from around the world including popular Greek channels and international networks like CNN ,BBC world, Euronews and Eurosport, RTL , Vox, ARD ZDF, National Geographic ,History Channel, Discovery and 24-hour film channels like TCM ,MGM and Filmnet 1,2 and 3, and various sports channels. Other popular nationwide TV channels in Greece are Alter, Alfa, Star, and Macedonia TV.

Radio

Athens International Radio is a radio station aimed at a non-Greek listenership and broadcasts on 104.4 FM in thirteen languages including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Arabic, Albanian, Polish, Bulgarian and Romanian.

Internet

On the whole the internet is far less present across Greece than in the rest of Europe and tends to be expensive. Connection is available through contracts and Internet Cards provided by various internet providers. The quality of internet access depends on the location: in Athens connectivity can be obtained through broadband, ADSL, ISDN, and dial-up, while in smaller towns and villages it may only be available via dial-up.
