Regarding hotel accommodation, hotels in the centre of Athens are generally situated near the Acropolis, in Plaka, in the area around Omonia square, in Kolonaki, in the vicinity of the Parliament square and on Sygrou Avenue. The Athenian Riviera also has many hotels – from Faliro to Glyfada, Kavouri, Voula, Vouliagmeni , Varkiza and Lagonisi. New hotels like Holiday Inn and Sofitel can be found near the airport. Hotels are also located on Athinas street, and near the main train station (Karaiskaki Square). Visitors often prefer to stay in the centre of town so as to be close to the historical sites, but the coastal resorts of Rafina, Nea Makri, Loutsa and Sounion offer an interesting alternative: thanks to extensive subway and suburban rail networks, in addition to the improved roads, these areas are very accessible.
