    International Schools

    Last update: 16/05/2008

Because of the city's large foreign-born population, the public school system employs bilingual teachers in 20 languages. ESL (English as a second language) programs can be found in most schools to help children integrate.

Many private schools cater to the needs of international students as well. Most of these schools are more costly then normal private school and much more expensive then publicly supported school . Expect to pay between $8,000 and $10,000 a year.

    Some notable International schools are:

  • Lycée Français de Chicago: Its mission is to prepare young people to be responsible global citizens by providing a dual-language education focused on excellence through the French National Curriculum and complemented by a strong English Language Arts and American Studies program.

  • Northtown Academy: Students relate education to real world experiences, exercising active citizenship and developing their individual potential.

  • Chicago International Charter School: The mission of Chicago International is to provide, through innovation and choice, an attractive and rigorous college-preparatory education that meets the needs of today's student.

  • British School of Chiago: The academic program of the school prepares the children for the national Assessment tests at 7, 11 and 14 years, GCSE examinations at 16 and the IB program at 18 years.
