Safety in Andorra
Andorra is one of the safeties countries in Europe. However, due its large amount of tourist, it sometimes attracts pickpockets around major tourist attractions, like ski resorts. If you're visiting a ski resort, take advice on weather and avalanche conditions before you travel at the Official Meteorological Service.
Unfortunately, it sometimes happens. Here it's a list of the most common unsafe situations:
- Pick pocking situations in crowded spaces and Bag-snatchers.
- Robbery: Avoid lonely streets out of hours. Don't keep money and valuables all in the same place and keep a photocopy or scanned copy of your passport somewhere safe and easy to have fast access to in case of emergency.
- "Date rape" and other drugs: Buy your own drinks and keep sight of them at all times to make sure they are not spiked; female travellers should be particularly careful.
- Violent Crime: Gun crime is almost inexistent in Andorra.
- Terrorist Activity: Not a single terrorist attack has ever been reported in Andorra.
- Car-Related Crime: It is preferable to lock any valuables into the boot and park the car in a supervised space and securely lock it. Driving in Andorra is completely save and roads are well-signed.
- Credit Card Scam: Unfortunately credit card scam also exists in Andorra. It is recommended to keep the PIN code safe and the card within eyesight when withdrawing some money from the ATM machine.
In case of an emergency, contact the Emergency Services described above as soon as possible. They can be reached from any phone by dialing 112 or 116.
Another factor to take into consideration is that the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is not valid in Andorra. Consequently, it is advisable to contract a comprehensive travel and medical insurance before reaching the country.
